Guests often find themselves stunned and overjoyed by the fresh, complex flavors that elevate every bite beyond expectations.
Service at Nami is remarkably attentive without ever feeling intrusive. As Danielle Taylor shares, the staff are engaging and genuinely invested in ensuring each guest’s experience is flawless. Many diners, including Brendon Supersad, recall how server Cece’s expert recommendations, like the filet mignon hibachi, enhanced their meals with impeccable flavor and perfect cooking.
Whether you’re drawn by the outstanding hibachi dishes, like those praised by corporate groups, or the meticulously crafted sushi rolls that remind seasoned travelers of their Tokyo adventures—as Matt Carozza fondly notes—Nami Japanese Restaurant promises a deeply satisfying culinary experience that is as much about ambiance and connection as it is about food.
For anyone craving an authentic yet adventurous dive into Japanese cuisine, Nami offers not just a meal, but a lasting memory of flavors, hospitality, and atmosphere that will have you returning time and time again.
Where do I begin?! The service was so attentive and engaging. The atmosphere felt cool and trendy. But of course the food is what I came for and they did not miss. I did the omakase experience and learned what sushi is actually supposed to be. I kept thinking each round was my favorite dish, then the next one would be even better. I was stunned, blown away, overjoyed. It was literally a perfect culinary EXPERIENCE. I was perfectly stuffed by the end of the night and had a hard time walking away from the counter.
Went there today for a company Holiday meal at lunch-time. Food was outstanding. Most of the team of 20+ that were there ordered hibachi style which looked really good. I ordered a Poke Bowl, a Salmon roll and Miso soup. The food was simply outstanding. My Poke bowl was the best I have ever hard. The Salmon role I dipped each piece in the poke bowl juices and OMG was that ever delicious!!!! All in all, the experience was outatanding. There was one minor malfunction however. My glass of sweet tea had turned from being too old. Pointed this out to the waitress and she was kind enough to replace it with a pepsi!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience all the way around. Miso soup.....fantastic too! Well done Nami!!!! I will be back with a friend.
I ordered the hibachi that was recommended by my waitress Cece. Cece provided amazing service — she was friendly, attentive, and made greatest recommendation ever …….fillet mignon hibachi. I had a fantastic experience at this sushi and hibachi restaurant!, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfect, and everything was cooked just right. Actually have been back there about five times in the space of one month just to have that same meal. Was checking for consistency. And they nailed it. Sorry about the photo it was not priority.
Delicious food, particularly their signature sushi roll. I love the atmosphere and our server was very friendly and attentive.
We made reservations for two to try the omakase experience at Nami last weekend. It was hands down the best sushi experience we’ve had since our 10-day sushi binge in Tokyo a few years ago! It’s an intimate 6-seat bar, upstairs and separate from the main restaurant, where you interact closely with the sushi chef. Everything was super fresh, delicious, and leaps and bounds above any other sushi we’ve had in Richmond. If you love sushi and want to spend a few extra dollars for a uniquely authentic experience, I don’t think you can find anything quite like Nami in the Richmond area. 10/10
I’m in Richmond to watch the UVA women’s soccer team take on Duke and wanted a light meal for dinner. I’m a huge sushi fan and this was close to my hotel so I gave it a try. The restaurant is casual and is decorated with fun college-vibes. The hostess welcomed me as soon as entered and sat me at the sushi bar. The full staff was very attentive. I liked that it was clean and seemed well run. I ordered miso soup, edamame and the spicy yellowtail roll. The edamame was fresh and salted perfectly. I didn’t love the miso soup as it was a little bland. The spicy yellowtail was super fresh. They have beer, wine and cocktails. I will definitely come back next time I’m in Richmond!
We discovered this place by mistake and it was a life saver. It’s open slightly later than other restaurants around it and it is wonderful! I loved the aesthetic inside, from manga and anime images to the wooden design. The staff is friendly and our server l, David, was friendly and fast. If I lived near by I’d be here constantly.
We hopped off our plane and got to our hotel a bit late for dinner. As we went on a night stroll to find food, we stumbled by Nami. Really glad we did! It was awesome to still get served close to their closing time. And they didn’t skimp on great service and great food. The service was fantastic (thanks, David!), and my veggie sushi was delicious. Bonus, the decor is rad and it felt safe to walk here. Definitely recommend this spot.
